Despite the fact that we live an era of being able to stream and access a large library of music at our fingertips; I do have a short list of artists that I stan enough to purchase their records. However my stanhood is for me, myself, and I. I’m well aware that all of my friends will have differing musical tastes. If there’s a concert coming in town that I want to attend, I know which friend to invite that appreciates a specific genre of music. I also know which friend will either decline my invite or completely ignore my text because, I should know better. When it comes to my friend Reba though, she missed the memo on stanhood etiquette.
Reba is an avid fan of Celine Dion. Don’t get me wrong, the woman can sing. I appreciate her range and her longevity in the industry. I even have a few of her songs I love to belt in my car and sing along to with 100% accuracy. However, that’s where my love for her talent stops. I may take my parents to see her at some point, but I won’t make it a point to see her every time she goes on tour. Reba is my polar opposite when it comes to Celine. She recently sent out a group text to indicate her excitement about Celine’s latest project. The project in question was not a greatest hits album, it was not even a complete album. All that was available was three tracks of music.
Are we really talking three tracks here? Just three tracks?! While I admire her enthusiasm, I need Reba to really get a copy of the new stanhood etiquette guidelines. The guidelines need to be read, meditated on, and then read again by Reba for good measure. One of our mutual friends tried to let her know that all that’s available to listen to were a few tracks. To Reba, the minuscule amount of music could not curb her joy. Reba is a hairdresser and music lover. She should be well aware that a few tracks don’t make a whole weave or a complete album. The complete Celine album will be dropping in another month or so. In the meantime, I think I’ll be gifting Reba with the latest stanhood guidelines. Tune back in to see if she gets on the same musical page as the rest of us.
